Cape Coral Peace Day in the Park

Sunday, September 18th, 2016 10am-6pm Admission is free, as well as free parking and shuttle service! Visitors are encouraged to bring dry or canned food for local people and/or pets in need. *Well behaved pets are welcome!!! This event is held in Cape Coral on the closest Sunday to the calendar-fixed International Day of Peace, celebrated on September 21st each year. Peace Day in the Park will once again be held at beautiful Jaycee Park with events being held both before and after hours. This year’s theme being “The Environment” has timely significance, and is close to the heart of our community right now. There’s something for everyone to enjoy at this family-favorite experience, including yoga and meditations, workshops, live music and dancing, great food, inspiring and creative local vendors and wellness practitioners, face painting, arts and crafts, kids activities, and even a huge spray fan to keep people cool! You and your pets are welcome to join along in our day of Peace, knowing that water stations, as well as food, drinks, and other yummy treats, will be on-site to keep you and your animal friends peaceful, filled full, hydrated, and happy! If you’re looking for a forever friend, pet adoptions will be available this year, in addition to a pet fashion show, animal obstacle courses, pet vendors, and more! At Peace Day in the Park, there is always a peaceful, easy feeling and a positive message of Peace and Love! Whether you’re just looking to enjoy a day of Peace and community, or you’re looking for ways to get involved, you will find volunteers, non-profits, and other local organizations also be on-site for you to connect with and share the various ways that you can make a difference. Since 300 people throughout the day attended the 1st Peace Day in the Park, the excitement, attendance, and difference we’ve been able to make in our community has continued to grow each year. As a community, Peace Day in the Park has been able to collect, literally, tons and tons of food for local organizations, as well as liters upon liters of blood for donation. “Each of us has the power to make a difference”, says Zachari VanDyne, founder and organizer of Peace Day in the Park. “We know with your help, this year we can far exceed anything we’ve ever done before to meet the most basic of needs… feeding bellies and saving lives.” EXCITING UPDATES THIS YEAR Free Parking and Shuttle Service With last year’s attendance of upwards of 10,000 people throughout the day, many people had to walk a distance to and from their cars. This year, we are happy to announce that there will be free off-site parking at nearby locations, as well as shuttle bus service to and from the park all day from 8AM until close. Bridging the Gap For the first time in the history of Peace Day in the Park, we will be honored to welcome Bobby C. Billie, the spiritual leader of the original Miccosukee Simanolee Nation Aboriginal People, which are the 9 independent tribes of Southwest Florida. Bobby C. Billie, the voice of the local indigenous tribes, has a lifetime of experience standing up for environmental causes here in Florida. His intention in coming to Peace Day in the Park is to begin to bridge the gap between the Florida indigenous culture and the American culture, to join together to heal our environment, and to further create a unified culture of Peace. He and the tribes have come together to take part in such a significant, historic community event. In honor of the nature of our event, and to make the first step in bridging the gap, he, as the representative of all the southwest Florida tribes, will be performing an indigenous blessing ceremony for Peace for the benefit of All, for the first time outside of Native American gatherings.
